By on April 1, 2011

It was a most fulfilling moment for the thousands of youths in Abuja who thronged the This Day Dome last weekend to witness several of their favourite musicians perform for free in a concert tagged Our Time.

An initiative aimed at increasing youth participation in the electoral process, guests however had to show their commitment by attending the concert with their voters registration cards before they were issued with tickets.

Long before the concert started, the success of the event was already evident by the amount of youths who clamored for free tickets as they flooded the ticket collecting centers armed with their voters registration cards. At a point, the organisers had to print more tickets to accommodate the demands of the youths.

Always expecting the best from their stars, the youths were not disappointed as they were treated to spectacular performances from the likes of Dbanj, P_Square, Tuface, Duncan Might Naeto C, and members of the MO’ Hit All  Stars and many more.

The concert kicked off with a performance by Tuface Idibia who treated his fans to an electric performance dishing out new and old tunes from his vast repertoire.

Naeto C brought storm in the building and the youths rose to their feet as they sang along to his Ako mi ti poju anthem.
The comedians were also not left out as  I Go Dye, I Go Save, Basketmouth and Gandoki brought tears and laughter to the teeming youths. I Go Die” had to stop performance midway to crack the hall up with his humorous declaration of support for Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The concert goers erupted in a frenzy when talented twins, P_Square came on stage as the final act of the day and wowed the crowd with their stagecraft, voices and dance steps.

The huge turnout at the peaceful well organised concert once again demonstrated the power of entertainment to initiate youth driven change  and the readiness of Nigerian Youths to acquire the power to change their destiny via the ballot box.

The concerts will continue in various states in coming weeks.
